Historian and political scientist, lecturer at the University of Haifa, Dr. Stefan Ihrig’s Justifying Genocide։ Germany and the Armenians from Bismarck to Hitler book’s presentation, organized by the Zoryan Institute in cooperation with the Armenian General Benevolent Union of Montreal and the Armenian Educational and Cultural Association of Hamazkayin Montreal, took place on April 26, 2018, at the Dervishian Hall of the AGBU.
Dr. Stefan Ihrig presented the German politicians’ and generally the German government's attitude towards Armenians and the Armenian Genocide from historic and political point of view. Citing relevant excerpt from various German publications and books he explained the reasons why the Germans justified Turkey's extermination programs. Subsequently, they learned from the Turks that they had the right to prevent the establishment of new and powerful states by minorities, and, with this conviction and logic, they also resorted to the Jewish massacre with a view to build a mighty German State dreamed by Hitler. At the end of the presentation, Dr. Ihrig answered the questions from the audience.
In his closing speech, President of the Zoryan Institute K.M. Greg Sarkissian encouraged the audience to add their own examples to this book saying that the collective awareness of such historical events would help us have trustful evidences so that we could talk and negotiate about all issues related to our nation.
