The region of Middle East and especially Mesopotamia with its two rivers Tigris and Euphrates, has been the cradle of various peoples since ancient times. The Armenian history has been closely related to these regions since ancient times, as it is shown in the epics of Haig and Pel, Ara Keghatsig, and Sasountsi Davit.

It was on this topic that historian Bedros Tovmasian from Los Angeles delivered a lecture titled “The Armenian highlands and Mesopotamia.” The event was organized by the Hamazkayin in London and took place at the Navasartian Center in London.

In his brief words of welcome, Hayasdan Vartanian, the president of Hamazkayin in London, presented the lecturer. He highlighted the importance of perceiving one’s own history in order to be able to create an honorable present and future.
Presenting his book with the same title published in 2006, the lecturer focused on the interrelations between the peoples and the civilizations of the Armenian highlands and Mesopotamia, and their impact on their corresponding histories, since the ancient times and until the end of the Pakradouni Dynasty, in 1045 AD. He especially focused on the episodes of our history when the Armenian people, due to its unity, has been able to throw out the enemy from the borders of fatherland. These are lessons that are much needed today, as well.

The lecturer concluded his speech by focusing on the Armenian language and the Armenian culture as the most important factors due to which the Armenian people has been able for centuries to preserve its identity, even under the most severe influence of other nations.

The lecture lasted around 45 minutes, after which a question and answer session of about one hour took place to satisfy the interest of the audience on our epic stories.

Members of the Communicty and Church Councils of Armenian in London, representatives of various Armenian associations, and around one hundred attendees, including national philanthropists Adom and Sella Tnjougians were present to the event.
