Hamasyan enchanted (Paris)

On Sunday, November 22, there was a break in the daily life of Paris’ 9th Quarter, where the concert of Tigran Hamasyan, Levon Shatikyan, and the Aratta Ribert band opened the doors to the world of dreams.

With the cooperation of Hamazkayin and “France-Armenie,” this concert organized at the Rossini Hall of the City Hall of the 9th Quarter of Paris commenced with the welcoming words of Hourig Baghdasarian, the president of Hamazkayin in Paris. She thanked Paris Mayor Bravo (although he did not attend the event,) for his support of Armenian cultural events.

The first part of the program featured a duet of Tigran Hamasyan (piano) and duduk player Levon Shatikyan. Their performance invited the audience to take part in a journey to Armenia. In the second part of the program, Mr. Hamasyan took the stage as a part of the Aratta Ribert band, which is coimposed of five young musicians from Los Angeles; Mr. Hamasyan on the piano, singer Areni, Ben Vendel (saxophone,) Neit Wood (drums,) Sam Minaieye (cello.)
The concert was concluded with a standing ovation from the nearly 400 attendees. The concert was followed by a cocktail party, which welcomed the audience as it lingered in the world of dreams.

Mr. Hamasyan was born in 1987, in Gyumri. Starting in 1997, he began taking lessons in jazz music, when he began composing his first pieces. Later he participated in jazz contests and received several awards. In 2006, he was awarded the world’s highest award for jazz music, the Thelonenius Monk Award. Levon Shatikyan has been awarded for his duduk performances by the Komitas Conservatory of Yerevan. Presently, he teaches at the conservatory in the city of Roman, France.
