Presentation of a volume titled “The life layer of anonymous ones” by Hagop Balian |

The presentation of a novel titled “The life layer of anonymous ones” by the editor of “Pakin,” writer and columnist Hagop Balian took place at Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at 7:00 PM, at the editorial offices of “Pakin” Literary Magazine. Excerpt from the volume were read to an audience of Lebanese-Armenian intellectuals and readers. Aram Sepetjian presented the novel.
Seta Krikorian delivered the welcome speech and was followed by Aram Sepetjian, who presented the novel saying that the novel “The life layer of anonymous ones” by Hagop Balian belongs more to the French-Armenian literature, since it has been written in France. Cont.

The student Forum of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Organization launched July 18, 2010 and will continue until July 31, 2010. The Forum has a 17-year-long history. Since 2000, it has been held in Armenia. This year 35 Armenian young students are participants.
During the 14 days of the program, the university students will have the opportunity to meet Armenian intellectuals, political-public figures, will attend lectures on historical and cultural themes, together with their peers from Armenia they will discuss various issues of interest to the Armenian youth, as well as visit historical sights. The program’s most positive aspect is that young students from around the globe meet each other and get to know each other and, in spite of language barriers and cultural differences, will find many ways to interact. What matters the most is the fact that they have come together. Cont.

Hagop Garabents Scholarship (Yerevan) |

The Hagop Garabents Scholarship ceremony was held July 14, at the Yerevan offices of Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association. Artashes Sargsyan, deputy director of the Philology Department of Yerevan State University, as well as the scholarship winners for the 2009-2010 school year from Yerevan’s three universities were present at the ceremony.
Lilit Galstyan, President of the Hamazkayin Foundation and RA Member of Parliament, welcomed the scholarship winners and said that when taking a retrospective look at the past 11 years and seeing the path the scholarship winner students have taken, one can surely say that all the anticipations are fulfilled and that the majority of the scholarship students have become important names in literature, literary studies and journalism. The M. and H. Arslanian Djemaran of Hamazkayin is 80 years old.
Following various celebrations of the 80th anniversary throughout the Curricular year of 2009-2010, a group of graduating Djemaran students visited the tombs of Hamazkayin’s founders, Nigol Aghpalian and Levon Shant, at the Armenian National Cemetery in Fern El Shebbak. After lighting candles and incense and putting flowers on the tombs, a student read excerpts from “Hin Asdvadzner,” by Levon Shant. Afterwards, all the students sang “Kamancha” by Sayat Nova. Following their visit to the cemetery, the students of the graduating class gathered in Djemaran’s garden and planted a pomegranate tree, thus making the 80-year-old path of their school bloom. Cont.

Sydney community unites to mark commencement of Smoky Dawson Centre construction |

SYDNEY: Over 500 members of the Sydney Armenian community attended a historic celebration at Galstaun College marking the commencement of construction of the Smoky Dawson Centre on Sunday.

Organized by the Parsegh Ganachian Music College of Hamazkayin, the violin concert of Garo Moughalian, a 17-year-old student in the College’s 8th grade, took place Friday, June 11, 2010, at 7:30 PM, at the K. and H. Armenian Hall of the Levon Shant Cultural Center of Hamazkayin. Members of Hamazkayin, musicians, art lovers, and family attended the concert.
Raffi Demirjian, the executive director of Hamazkayin’s art schools, welcomed the audience. He said similar concerts aim at encouraging students and offering them a stage, so that they might gain relevant experience. Mr. Demirjian said the students succeed when they thoroughly follow the curriculum, when they have talent and the will to excel themselves, and when they enjoy the guidance and support of expert teachers. Mr. Demirjian stated that the role played by Garik Gasparyan, Garo Moughalian’s teacher, is praiseworthy. He said it is due to his efforts that this event has been realized. Toward the end of his speech, Raffi Demirjian expressed hope that this solo concert will trigger new accomplishments. Cont.

Razmig Bertizian painting exhibition opens (Lebanon) |

An exhibition of paintings by well-known artist Razmik Bertizian opened Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 6:30 PM, at the Lucy Tutunjian Exhibition Hall of Hamazkayin. The event was sponsored by Archbishop Kegham Khacherian, the Prelate of the Armenian Diocese in Lebanon and was presided over by Mr. and Mrs. Hagop Chilingirian. A large number of art lovers attended the event.
On this occasion, Hagop Havatian, the director of the Lucy Tutunjian Exhibition Hall and Vahe Setian Printing and Publishing House of Hamazkayin, said that Razmig Bertizian is a well-known name for the larger family of Hamazkayin and that those who have worked with the artist know his meticulous approach.
Mr. Havatian emphasized that the exhibition is an expression of gratitude from Hamazkayin to the artist. Cont.

The Central Committee of Hamazkayin visits Catholicos Aram I |

Catholicos Aram I received a delegation from the Central Committee of Hamazkayin headed by Vache Papazian. The Central Committee of Hamazkayin informed the Catholicos of the discussions and decisions taken during the Constituent Meeting of Hamazkayin in Lebanon.
Greeting the newly elected committee, the Catholicos praised Hamazkayin’s work, especially in the spheres of education and culture. He reminded the Committee that the realization of cultural and educational values is imperative when faced with the increasing danger of globalization, especially in the diaspora. He said Hamazkayin must play an important role in this aspect. Cont.

An event dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Gomidas Radio Hour of Uruguay took place on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the Gomidas Chamber Music Hall. The event was the initiative of the RA Ministry of Diaspora and Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association.
Gomidas Radio Hour is one of the first radio hours in the diaspora. It is the official voice of the Vramian Club of the ARF. It is the spokesperson of the Armenian community in Uruguay and plays an exceptional role in the reinforcement of Armenia-diaspora ties. Cont.

On Friday, May 21, 2010, at 8:00 PM, the first of Kayaneh Dance School of Hamazkayin’s annual performances took place at the Emil Lahoud Hall. Parents, members of Hamazkayin, art lovers, and a large number of others attended the event.
Haverj Shekherdemian, the host, said that 281 students aged 7-17 participated in the event. He thanked all the parents and the supporters who provided moral and financial support. Cont.
