The 19th Regional Meeting of Hamazkayin in Lebanon took place on 14-15 July and 21 July at the Hrair Maroukhian Hall of Aghpalian-HMEM Sports and Cultural Center. The Central Committee of Hamazkayin, chapter representatives, and invited guests attended the meeting.
During these three days the participants discussed the two-year activities of the previous Regional Committee of Hamazkayin in Lebanon, as well as the actions taken and difficulties faced by its units and chapters. Cont.

At the end of the 2007-2008 school year, the Djemaran administration once again made every effort to give the students of every section the opportunity to present an art program to their parents, teachers, and guests through several end-of-school-year ceremonies.
On the morning of Saturday, May 31, the Norsigian Kindergarten of Hamazkayin’s Pink class made their performance, and on Sunday, June 15 the Kindergarten’s Green and Blues classes presented their performances. Following a joyous and upbeat sequence of dances, 38 children from the Green class received their kindergarten diplomas and said their farewell to Norsigian Kindergarten. Cont.

On Sunday, July 13, Hamazkayin’s 14th Student Forum began in Yerevan. This year more than 35 students from the United States, Brazil, Canada, Australia, Russia, Lebanon, Syria, Iran, France, and Armenia are participating in the Forum.

Arek Youth Theater School of Hamazkayin in Lebanon's first youth ceremony |

Organized by the Arek Youth Theater School of Hamazkayin in Lebanon, the ceremony marking the end of the 2007-2008 academic year took place July 4, 2008, at 7 p.m., in the K. and H. Armenian Hall at Hamazkayin's Levon Shant Center. The ceremony was the first of its kind in the history of the school.
Raffi Demirjian, director of Hamazkayin's Levon Shant Cultural Center, opened the event. He said that following the lauded presentation of the comedy 'Unger Panchouni i Dzablvar' by the Arek Youth Theater School of Hamazkayin, this ceremony was another opportunity to gain a better understanding of the methodology guiding the school's activities and of the students' potential as promising young actors. Organized by the Toros Roslin Plastic Arts School of Hamazkayin, the yearly collective student exhibition took place June 28, 2008, at 6 p.m., at K. and H. Armenian Hall at the Levon Shant Cultural Center of Hamazkayin. Hamazkayin members, parents, and art lovers attended the event.
Jeanette Yapoujian, the art director of Toros Roslin Plastic Arts School of Hamazkayin, opened the event. She said the exhibition is an opportunity to take account of the school's activities of the past year. Mrs. Yapoujian said the pieces created by the students are the results of continual and meticulous work, for which the teachers' input is great. Cont.

Condolences
The family of Hamazkayin and the Regional Committee of Hamazkayin in Syria thoroughly express their condolences on the untimely death of talented and promising conductor Artoun Kalemkiarian

Artoun Kalemkiarian was born in Kuwait in 1971. After receiving his primary education at the Haygazian Armenian School in Aleppo, he continued his education at the Karen Jeppe Armenian Lyceum. He simultaneously took piano lessons and served as a psalm-reader in the church.
From 1986-1994 he was a member of Zvartnots Choir of Hamazkayin in Aleppo; first as a singer, then as a music arranger. Cont.

The Knar Dance Troupe of Hamazkayin succeeds with its recital “For you, Aznavour”

As part of the initiatives celebrating Hamazkayin’s 80th anniversary, Knar Dance Troupe of the Regional Committee of Hamazkayin in Lebanon presented a performance titled “For you, Aznavour.” Under the presidency of Mr. and Mrs. Hrair Sarkissian, the dance recital dedicated to Aznavour was presented for three consecutive days at Casino Du Liban. The representatives of three religious communities of Armenians in Lebanon, the Ambassador of Switzerland in Lebanon Mr. Francois Barras, delegates of the Embassies of France and Kuwait in Lebanon, the President of Byblos International Festival Latifeh Lakkis, the representative of the President of the Lebanese Syndicate of Journalists Mr. Melhem Karam, Mr. Barouir Aghbashian, Mayor of Bourj Hamoud Antranig Mserlian, politicians and political activists, the general Director of the Central Statistics Committee Maral Tutelian-Gidanian, representatives of political parties, Lebanese media, Armenian associations and institutions, artists, and members of Hamazkayin were among the huge audience present at the event.
On this occasion, world-renown French-Armenian artist Charles Aznavour sent a letter to the big Hamazkayin family. He expressed his words of gratitude for the association’s work. The dance performance, “For you, Aznavour,” began after Aznavour’s letter was read. Cont.

Hamazkayin presents diasporan-Armenian writer Hamasdegh |

Hamazkayin Armenian Cultural and Educational Association and Yerevan State University organized a conference two months ago. It was dedicated to prominent diasporan-Armenian writer Hamasdegh.
The June 19 event took place at the Faculty of Philology at Yerevan State University and once again honored the two great names of our culture: Hamasdegh and Hagop Garabents. The two diasporan-Armenian writers life paths explored their own identity, nostalgia, and roots. Though they have lived their lives far away from their fatherland, their yearning for their dear fatherland has always been with them. Cont.

On May 18, the Taniel Varoujan Chapter of Hamazkayin in Fresno celebrated a book launch at local Armenian club “Asbarez.” The event was dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Hamazkayin’s founding The event celebrated Kevork Bedigian’s, “My bookshelf.” Hamazkayin members and Armenians from the region interested in culture attended the event.
Dirouhi Kupelian hosted the event. First, she thanked the audience for attending and then invited Hovhannes Karinian, the chapter’s chairman to deliver a speech on behalf of the chapter committee. Cont.

On May 20, the celebration event of the 80th anniversary of Hamazkayin took place at the grand hall in the Yerevan Opera House. Among the members of the audience were Armenia's Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan, together with other ministers, members of Parliament, representative of ARF Bureau Hrand Margaryan, members of the Central Committee of Hamazkayin, intellectuals, artists, as well as a large audience and delegates from the diaspora who had come to Armenia to take part in the ARF General Assembly.

The yearly stage show of the Nyree, Nanor, and Maralo Dance Troupes of Hamazkayin took place the evening of May 10. Veteran dance instructor Hovhannes Khachigian directed the show. The Regional Committee of Hamazkayin in Greece organized the event, which took place at the Zavarian Center in Kokkinos.
Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Greece, Anastasios Nerandzis; Mayor of Rendi, Athelios Benetatos; the ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Greece, Vahram Kajoyan; RA military attaché Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Ramazyan; and counselor Serop Bejanyan, together with their wives and the personnel of the RA Embassy in Greece were among the members of the audience.
