PRESS RELEASE

The Central Committee of Hamazkayin is pleased to announce that the benefactors of M. and H. Arslanian Djemaran, Mr. and Mrs. Haig Arslanian and their children, have donated a sum of $100,000, which will be allocated to the completion of the “Adrineh Karakashian” Sports and Cultural Hall at Djemaran.

As in the past, the Arslanian family continues its tradition of contributing to the important work of teaching and educating the new generations of young Armenians. The Central Committee expresses its deepest gratitude for this generous gift.   Cont.

PRESS RELEASE

In July of this year Zohrab Bosnoyan, the noble community member, a devoted and active member of Hamazkayin, a permanent donor to his former school, and an alumnus of the N. Palanjian Djemaran of Hamazkayin of the class of 1950, departed this world.

To honor the memory of their father and their grandfather, Mr. and Mrs. Sdepan and Tamar Der Bedrossian and their children founded a Scholarship Fund within the Central Fund of Hamazkayin with the initial sum of $100,000 USD (one hundred thousand American dollars.)   Cont.

With the cooperation of the Central Committee of Hamazkayin and Yerevan State University, a conference dedicated to Levon Shant took place November 27, 2008, at Yerevan State University.

On the 80th anniversary of its founding, the Central Committee of Hamazkayin has organized a series of events and conferences, one of which is the conference dedicated to Levon Shant. The conference aimed to evaluate the multi-talented Levon Shant, and introduce to the public in Armenia his productive literary, cultural, and educational activities.   Cont.

To the memory of Arshak Galstaun

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of our dear and highly regarded friend, Arshak Galstaun. We express our sincere condolences to Mrs. Sophie Galstaun and the Galstaun Family, as well as to the family of Hamazkayin in Australia.

The worldwide Hamazkayin family and the Central Committee of Hamazkayin greatly appreciated Mr. Galstaun’s devotion to the Armenian school and Armenian education. It is due to him that the Djemaran of Hamazkayin in Australia was created, and therefore was baptized in his name: Arshak and Sophie Galstaun Djemaran of Hamazkayin.   Cont.

We announce with great pleasure that Dr. Adrineh Karakashian, MD, one of the first alumni of the Hamazkayin Lyceum (Djemaran,) has generously donated $200,000 (U.S.) to the Central Committee of Hamazkayin for the construction of a sports and cultural structure on the estate of M. and H. Arslanian Lyceum (Djemaran) of Hamazkayin.

It is not the first time that Dr. Adrineh Karakashian has expressed her love and kindness to the educational institutions of Hamazkayin through financial donations (among other means). Throughout the years, she has frequently contributed financial assistance for the realization of several projects related to the lyceums of Hamazkayin in Lebanon and Marseille.   Cont.

We happily announce that during a special event Mr. Jean-Noel Gerini, the president of the General Council of the province of Bush du Rhône in France, announced a €1.35 million endowment for the Hamazkayin Djemaran (Lyceum) of Marseilles. The money will be used for the construction of a sports structure adjacent to the school.

We also announce that due to the consistent efforts of the school’s leaders, the Hamazkayin Lyceum in Marseilles will receive financial assistance from the French education ministry. Beginning in the following school year, the Ministry of Education will provide the most important part of the secondary school’s budget.

This year Hamazkayin Armenian Educational and Cultural Association celebrates the 80th anniversary of its foundation. On this occasion, various events and initiatives will take place throughout the Diaspora and in Armenia. In addition, the 80-year legacy of the Association's various spheres of activities will be assessed. Moreover, the Association's new commitments and challenges for the coming years will be outlined.

The Association's jubilee is a chance to reevaluate its goals and objectives. It will be an opportunity to find new solutions to new challenges, by looking into the past and examining the present to create special activities alongside the current ones, to shake off the obsolete, and to adopt new values while preserving important traditions.   Cont.
